My paddle story
I lost my legs two years ago in a worksite accident. I was lucky I survived. Today I am left with two stumps, ending mid-thigh, something that has made it difficult to have good prosthetics made. At Sunnaas, a rehabilitation centre, I learned to be self-sufficient in a wheelchair. I have a car that has been adapted, and that has helped me reclaim a more independent life.
Fylkir Sævarsson is the very successful Icelandic paddler, elite open water swimmer and cyclist, who in 2012 became the Danish National Champion in Ocean Racing and winner of the Tour de Gudenå with his offshore racer SeaBird Sport 600.
Fylkir Þorgeir Sævarsson, an Icelander in Denmark, elite open water swimmer and cyclist, got the idea of circumnavigating Denmark in a kayak – the Red-White-Ribbon – faster than anyone before.
The International Paddle Sports Trade Show, Paddle Expo, held at the International Exhibition Centre in Nuremberg, Germany, took place on 18th -20th September this year and once again Seabird Designs of course took part of it also. It is a trade show where you can find everything for paddling – kayaks, canoes, SUP boards, paddles, accessories and many more and this year there were 270 exhibitors in two huge linked halls, everyone from buyers, manufacturers and distributors to wholesalers, press and organisations. Although it is a trade show and not open for the general public, the 3 days were very hectic, interesting and fun!

The Ocean Racing 2012 was held in August in North Sealand, Denmark in a town called Helsingør. The distance was 36km and consisted of a 2 x 18km long stretches that was paddled along the coastline. Fylkir finished as number one gaining himself a title of the Danish National Champion! For the race he used a carbon fiberglass version of the SeaBird Sport 600.
Finlandia Canoe Relay is an international canoe event, which was held in June 2012, for the 28th time and SeaBird Designs was proud to be part of their sponsoring team.
